Lab Testing

Our urgent care center has an onsite lab that can perform blood, throat swab, and urine tests for common illnesses and viruses, including STDs. We run tests to see if adults are still protected by childhood vaccines and also run pre-employment drug screens.

Laboratory Tests for Illnesses

Our testing lab is kept pretty busy during the winter months when many patients come in with symptoms of influenza (flu). These tests are necessary because there are a few medications that treat flu, and we want to make sure we prescribe them for actual flu cases.

We also provide lab services to screen for other frequent illnesses typically seen in urgent care and emergency rooms:

  • Bronchitis
  • Coxsackie virus, which causes foot, hand, and mouth disease
  • Common STDs
  • Diabetes
  • Fifth disease
  • Hepatitis C
  • Lyme disease
  • Shingles
  • Strep throat
  • Tuberculosis

In addition, we can test patients’ blood to determine if they have specific allergies; we test for abnormal conditions such as high bilirubin, a symptom of gallbladder disease, and check iodine levels, which can indicate an over or under-active thyroid.

Lab Services for Routine Checkups

Laboratory tests are part of routine checkups for children and adults.

Lipid panels are used to measure the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. High counts of “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides can lead to heart disease but can be lowered and controlled with a proper diet, exercise, and sometimes, medication.

Routine metabolic lab panels check glucose (sugar) levels, the balance of electrolytes and other key fluids, and kidney functions. The purpose of routine checkups is to see if the patient’s body is functioning normally, to monitor medication effects, or to diagnose a specific disease or condition.

Lab Services for Pre-Employment Screening

We provide pre-employment physicals and include laboratory testing for evidence of drug and alcohol use, and assess major organ health such as the heart and lungs.
